Tips For Choosing the Perfect Campsite

You’ve picked the perfect campground, but how do you narrow down your choice of sites? Check out our tips for choosing the perfect campsite.

Decide what type of holiday you want

A relaxing getaway or an action-packed adventure? The type of holiday you want will dictate whether you’re looking for a more secluded site away from the main amenities, or right in the action. Review the campground map to see where playgrounds, fields, washrooms, and access to trails and amenities are located, and choose your site to either be near or away from them.

Check for hookups

Most campgrounds offer a variety of hookups, so decide which are must-haves and narrow down your site choices based on that.

Do your research and check reviews

Don’t be surprised by a train rumbling past in the middle of the night! Check out google earth to see what neighbours the campground, noting the location of highways or train tracks, and choose a site further away from them.

Check reviews online for further insight into the campground, and look at any shared photos.

Maneuverability and site size

Always start by comparing your RV’s dimensions with the site’s, making sure to account for your awning and any slide outs. For big rigs, look for pull-through site or an area the offers room to get in and out comfortably.

Get the inside scoop

Sometimes it’s easiest to just ask the experts. If you’re booking a private campground with an office, reach out by phone with your wish list, and they can suggest the best site to suit your needs.

Consider potential safety concerns

While waterfront sites have the best views and access, it may cause added stress when camping with young children if you’re concerned about them falling in.
